Tight End Greg Olsen heads to the Carolina Panthers to provide another weapon for Cam Newton.
The Bears will receive a player to be named later, and a draft pick to be named later. They tried to trade Olsen last off-season as well, but to no avail.
Olsen, a big guy with speed, will now be coached up by one of the best tight ends coaches in the league.
Rob Chudzinski, now the offensive coordinator with Carolina, used to coach Antonio Gates and the tight ends for the San Diego Chargers. He made the move when defensive coordinator, Ron Rivera, got the head coaching job for the Panthers (replacing John Fox).
This may be the change of scenery and fresh start that Olsen needs, and he is in a situation to succeed.
He adds to an arsenal that resigned Deangelo Williams (which I don’t understand), has backups in Jonathan Stewart and Mike Goodson, and of course, Steve Smith on the outside.
A quick note on the defensive end of things, Carolina resigned defensive end Charles Johnson, linebacker Thomas Davis, signed defensive tackle Ron Edwards, and extended star linebacker, Jon Beason.
Perhaps things might be turning around quickly for the rebuilding Panthers, only time will tell…
