WWE Monday Night Raw (7/25/11)

From start to finish, this was one of the best shows in a very long time.

The show began with a WWE Title match, between The Miz and Rey Mysterio Jr. A great back-and-forth match, it was good to see The Miz improve in the ring and hold his own. Mysterio, one of the best in the business, performed at his usually high level for the victory, and the Championship! He even fought off Alberto Del Rio from cashing in his “Money in the Bank” briefcase.

Then we have the United States Champ, Dolph Ziggler, against Evan Bourne. If this match was longer, it would have been a lot better. Even though it was short, it was a good, quick match by two talented young Superstars, resulting in a Dolph Ziggler victory.

A divas match of course. This was a tag-team match that involved the Divas Champ Kelly Kelly, teamed up with Eve Torres. These beautiful ladies squared off against Maryse and Melina, and they showed some wrestling skills in that ring. Did I mention they were beautiful? Of course Kelly Kelly and Eve won the match.

Triple H: The Game music hits, the crowd cheers, and our new “Chairman” gives a “State of the WWE Address.” He offered nothing but respect and love for Vince, credited Rey Mysterio for winning the belt, and awarded John Cena his rightfully deserved rematch…to be the main event (so yes, Rey has a 2nd title match).

Triple H then reintroduced Hall of Famer, Jim Ross, back to Monday Night Raw, all while giving Michael Cole the rest of the night off from commentary, to prepare for his match..

R-Truth came out to interrupt “The Game,” only to get attacked by a returning John Morrison. The “Guru of Greatness” connected with Starship Pain to conclude the situation.

Michael Cole has a match against, none other than the Internet Champion, Zack Ryder. Ryder comes out to a loud pop, and lands the Rough Ryder to win a quick match.

We get a rematch from last week’s tournament, with Alberto Del Rio getting another crack at Kofi Kingston. Kingston was in control for the majority of the match, until Del Rio emerged victorious from his arm-bar submission.

The main event, Rey Mysterio defending the WWE Championship, against John Cena. A great performance by both Superstars in this match. Two fan-favorites going at it for the most prized piece of gold in the company. The crowd was torn and the action was fantastic! They took their turns in control, then went back-and-forth with a frenzy of moves, counters, and combinations. Unsuccessful pin and submission attempts, an exchange of finishers and signature moves, even Mysterio putting Cena in his own STF. Cena eventually comes back for the win, a clean pin following an Attitude Adjustment (AA).

Cena celebrates, shakes Mysterio’s hand after helping him up, and we hear unfamiliar music…

It’s an awesome song…and out comes…

C.M. PUNK! Huge pop! The “Reality Era” continues to gain steam.
Punk meets Cena in the ring, raises his belt with his name on it, as Cena raises the belt that he had just won. Punk’s belt was cheered by the crowd, and Cena left the ring. Punk grabs a mic and ends the show with, “I”m backkkk!”
