Detroit Lions Football
Is this the year that the Detroit Lions become relevant again?
If you don’ think so, I’m sure Calvin Johnson appreciates the off-season activity going on in Motown!

Let’s take a glance at the team trying to compete in the NFC North.

Offensively:

They have surrounded Matthew Stafford with speed and talent, so it would be nice to see him stay healthy this season (he has yet to complete a season).

Over the past 3 drafts, they have added Jahvid Best, Mikel LeShoure, and Kevin Smith to their running back core. Detroit just drafted Titus Young to fit in with superstar Calvin Johnson, and veteran Nate Burleson.
They have a good tandem at tight end, with Brandon Pettigrew, Tony Scheffler
Their offensive line as a unit is somewhere between average and good.

Defensively

They have been very active in improving that side of the ball.
They have revamped their linebacking core with middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch, and outside linebacker Justin Durant.
They have a young and athletic secondary led by Louis Delmas, but the strength of their defense is that front-4 that they have (Vanden Bosh, Suh, Fairley, Avril).

At the very least, the Detroit Lions should be an exciting team to watch this season.
And in a division with 2 playoff teams (Bears), one being the Superbowl Champs (Packers), they certainly have their work cut out. Don’t overlook Donovan McNabb out there in Minnesota either, he has done nothing but win games (despite last year’s fiasco in D.C.).

This could turn out to be one of the best divisions in football.
