Friday NFL Update

No Brees in the Big Easy?

New Orleans Saints and Quarterback Drew Brees have found success together, but it is a business. They two parties are miles apart in negotiations at the moment, but something’s gotta give with the Monday deadline coming. The Saints might place the franchise tag on him to buy themselves more time or else he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

First Franchise Tag

DeSean Jackson is finally getting a raise. Philadelphia has placed the franchise tag on the 2-time Pro Bowl receiver/returner. This could be a prelude to a long-term deal.

Safety comes first in the Bay Area

Oakland Raiders franchise tag Safety Tyvon Branch and the San Francisco 49ers are expected to do the same with Safety Dashon Goldson.

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks agrees to a deal that will keep him in San Francisco, $8.25 million guaranteed.

Secondary Tag

Falcons tag Pro Bowl Cornerback Brent Grimes

Atlanta is currently working on an extension with Linebacker Curtis Lofton.

Not It!

If the Tennessee Titans want to keep Cornerback Cortland Finnegan, they will have to negotiate a deal because they won’t use the franchise tag on him.

Curtain Call

Pittsburgh Steelers continue to shed salary and age. Receiver Hines Ward will not retire, he just won’t return to the Steel Curtain.

Next on the chopping block is Linebacker James Farrior. Ward and Farrior have been key players over the years but they have also been key leaders.

Previously, the Steelers released Defensive End Aaron Smith and Guard Chris Kemoeatu.
