Kahlil Bell (shows glimpses, gets caught in numbers game), Darius Reynaud (workout with Bears, strictly a return man)
Santonio Holmes (locker room reputation might blackball him), Laurent Robinson (good slot receiver, concussion issues)
Jermichael Finley (neck injury), Tony Scheffler (workout with Bears)
Cornerback, Asante Samuel
One of the most dangerous guys to throw at in his prime, unfortunately the big money and talk caught up with him. Excellent I.Q. and game preparation, he can still play at a high level in a zone defense. Maybe he’ll get a call after teams test their young corners out, maybe it’ll take an injury.
Cornerback, Dunta Robinson
Not the same guy he used to be, as age tends to creep up on everybody. He was beat out by rookie Marcus Cooper in Kansas and was then a cap casualty. His services could be had for a one-year deal, probably as a rotational corner but I would like to see a zone defense pick him up.
Safety, Ed Reed
The sensation career is nearing an end, but some injury in the secondary could have his number dialed because of his football I.Q. Reed still wants to play, the thing is that he can’t keep up with the speed anymore, it would take the right fit to squeeze anything he has left out of him for a short span of games. His value probably comes with game study and locker room leadership, but that’s if he isn’t a distraction because he feels he can still ball out.
Safety, Quintin Mikell
This guy has been an unsung player on good defenses in Philadelphia, Carolina, and St. Louis. He hurt his foot in the divisional game against the 49ers. He is a solid option, has been a stop-gap player but probably deserved to be treated better than that. A vocal guy in the huddle that, good in the box, might not cover well but will make most tackles on tight ends.
Safety, Nick Collins
This guy was starting to make a name for himself in Green Bay, that was before suffering a neck injury that’s kept him off the field for a couple years. Now he’s medically cleared, and even states that the Packers’ doctor was the only one that wouldn’t give him clearance. He had double-digit pass deflections in 4 of the 6 seasons he started. He racked up over 70 tackles 4 times as well, and in his last 3 active seasons picked off 17 passes.
James Harrison (36 years old), Nick Barnett (knee injury), Desmond Bishop (knee injury), Pat Angerer (knee/foot injuries)
In the Trenches
Offensive Tackle, Tyson Clbo (struggled last season but finished strong), Offensive Tackle, Eric Winston (may workout for altimore, played for OC Gary Kubiak in Houston)
Offensive Gurd, Harvey Dahl (ankle injury)
Center, David Baas (knee injury, cap casualty), Center, Dan Koppen (knee injury, cap casualty)
Defensive Tackle, Kevin Williams (contemplated retirement, wants to return to Vikings)
Kicker, Rob Bironas
Feels like he was in Tennessee forever. He’s had some good years, even ranking in the top 5 in points. He’s nearly drilled 86% of his field goals in 9 seasons.
