NBA Windsprints: Draft, Offseason, Olympics

There is a report that when Philadelphia met with Ben Simmons, they let him know that he was going to be the first pick of the draft. GM Bryan Colangelo says that they would like to package their 24th & 26th picks in the latter part of the first round to get back into the top-8. The question becomes, would they offer one of their 3 big guys (Embiid, Noel, Okafor) to make that kind of a jump?

Richard Jefferson got his championship ring and is hanging it up. Happy Birthday R.J., who turns 36 today. He played well for the Cavs in The Finals.

Kevin Durant and Draymond Green are confirmed to be representing Team USA in Rio. A lot of the guards have elected not to play: Steph Curry Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, and the team is planning on playing without LeBron James. Klay Thompson has not made a decision yet. Jimmy Butler would love to participate. Guys that are considered locks to rep USA are: Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and DeMarcus Cousins. Pau Gasol will not play for Spain this summer.

Golden State is still targeting Durant as a free agent. The former MVP, I think, would be wise to sign a 1+1 contract. He can make the most max money next season, play for a team that was one game away from a second appearance in The Finals, and give himself the option to be a free agent next summer when Westbrook also comes off the books. Another rumored target for the Warriors is future Hall of Famer, Dirk Nowitzki. The 7-footer would make them even more dangerous, and it jsut might be the only offer that can pry him out of Dallas to end his career.

In what appeared to be a good move at the time, Milwaukee is again, rumored to be dangling Greg Monroe on the trade block. The former Detroit Piston didn’t turn out to be a good fit for the Bucks last season. He has 2 years left on his deal, the econd being a player option.

Jared Dudley responded to a fan on Twitter about possibly going to Utah as a free agent and he said that he could envision that happening. Back in high school I actually played against the now, 30 year-old veteran.

How about trying to connect some dots? Atlanta has been a very good team without a go-to player. If Al Horford were to leave as a free agent, there is a big man that could replace him. He was actually born and raised in Atlanta. Dwight Howard was successful in the southeast in Orlando. Not so much with the Lakers and Rockets, and I think a team like the Hawks would welcome him with open arms and give him a few more touches than the western conference did. I think Howard can be an all-star again if he goes back to the east.
