One rookie season, 860 yards, and 11 total touchdowns later, Tyreke Hill takes over the top spot on the depth chart for the Kansas City Chiefs. His quick translation to the pro level allowed the team to shed salary in former Pro Bowler Jeremy Maclin. The Chiefs also got younger after releasing another former Pro Bowler in Jamaal Charles, a guy they don’t believe will come back to haunt them after signing with the rival Broncos.
Hill’s emergence under Andy Reid is similar to DeSean Jackson’s stint in Philadelphia. Standout on special teams as a returner, make an impact at wide receiver, and even getting tossed the ball for some carries. Talk about a steal in the 5th round.
Concerning the Chiefs as a whole, I expect Alex Smith to start the entire season before Patrick Mahomes takes over. If you recall, KC traded up from the 27th slot to draft Mahomes 10th overall. Travis Kelce will be the featured player in the offense to move the chains, and Hill will be the next target through the air as one of the league’s fastest playmakers. The defense has been consistently top-tier, and they’ve been consistently making the playoffs under Coach Reid.
Right now, Chris Conley is slated to start on the other side. Perhaps they make a play for Eric Decker if he gets released by the Jets, which is expected. Maybe they kick the tires on veteran free agent, Anquan Boldin, who I think can still contribute for another season. Anyways, enjoy the Hill highlights.
